The state of Illinois is expected to take formal title to the President Abraham Lincoln Hotel and Conference Center on Tuesday, which will help clear the way for the eventual sale of the hotel to new operators.

State Treasurer Alexi Giannoulias has scheduled a judicial sale at 9 a.m. Tuesday in the Sangamon County Board Chamber. In addition to taking the title from the current owners, the sale will erase all liens and outstanding judgments against the property, which Giannoulias, in a news release, said will make the hotel “significantly more attractive to potential buyers.” The treasurer’s office plans to advertise the property nationwide and conduct a public auction to sell the hotel later this year.
