Giannoulias opens new satellite office in Rockford

July 14, 2008

In an effort to reach more Illinois residents, State Treasurer Alexi Giannoulias today opened a Treasurer’s satellite office in the Zeke Giorgi State Building at no new cost to the state.

Historically, the State Treasurer has had offices in Springfield and Chicago. Since Giannoulias began his term as the State Treasurer in January 2007, he has opened satellite offices in Mt. Vernon, Riverdale, Rock Island and now at 200 South Wyman St. in Rockford.

“As the third largest city in Illinois, Rockford is extremely important to the state economy and my office,” Giannoulias said. “State business doesn’t just happen in Springfield and Chicago. This new satellite office will provide more access to our programs and staff for residents in the Rockford area.”

Residents can stop by the office to learn about many of the Treasurer’s programs including the Bright Start College Savings Program, low-interest loan programs for businesses, residents and non-profits, and the Cash Dash program. In addition, Treasurer’s Office employees will travel to surrounding areas to promote its programs and services for local residents and government agencies.

“It is wonderful to have a Treasurer’s satellite office in our community,” Sen. Dave Syverson (R-Rockford) said.  “This will provide a one-stop shop for residents to find out more about all of the services the Treasurer’s Office provides.”

The Treasurer’s Office will not be spending any new tax dollars operating the new satellite office. Existing employees will staff the office. The Treasurer’s Office is not paying rent for the new space because it is housed in a state government building.

"State Treasurer Giannoulias' commitment to community-based offices is a progressive approach to fiscal management,” Rockford Mayor Larry Morrisey said. “The City of Rockford welcomes his presence in our community and we hope that other state entities follow his lead."

The Treasurer’s satellite office will be open to the public from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. on Mondays and Fridays. To learn more about the Treasurer’s Office and the programs it offers, visit www.treasurer.il.gov or call the Rockford office at (815) 987-7069.
